Policies by Fare Type
Eurostar's change and refund policies depend on your fare type, not just your class. Here's the breakdown:
Standard (Non-Flexible)
- Exchanges: Not permitted
- Refunds: Not permitted
- What to know: This is the cheapest fare. If your plans are uncertain, consider Standard with Exchange or Standard Premier instead.
Standard with Exchange
- Exchanges: Permitted for a fee (typically £30 per person, per direction)
- Refunds: Not permitted
- What to know: You can change to a different train on the same route. Subject to availability and any fare difference.
Standard Premier
- Exchanges: Permitted, often with a reduced fee or free depending on the specific fare
- Refunds: Partial refund may be available depending on fare type
- What to know: More flexible than Standard but policies vary. Check the specific terms at booking.
Business Premier
- Exchanges: Free and unlimited, right up to departure
- Refunds: Full refund available
- Same-day flexibility: Board any train on the same day if you miss yours
- What to know: Maximum flexibility. This is one of the key reasons business travellers choose this class.
How to Make Changes
- Log into your Eurostar account or go to the "Manage my booking" section on Eurostar's website
- Enter your booking reference and surname
- Select the journey you want to change
- Choose a new date/time
- Pay any difference in fare or exchange fee
Changes can also be made by phone through Eurostar's customer service line, though this may involve longer wait times.
Disruptions & Cancellations by Eurostar
If Eurostar cancels or significantly delays your train (30+ minutes), you're entitled to:
- A full refund, or
- Rebooking on the next available service at no extra cost
For delays of 60 minutes or more, you may also be entitled to compensation under international rail passenger rights regulations.
