Where You Are

Gare du Nord sits in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, in the north-east of the city centre. It's one of Europe's busiest stations and Paris's main hub for northern rail connections. The good news: it's extremely well connected to every part of the city.

The Paris Métro

The fastest way to get almost anywhere in Paris. Gare du Nord is served by two Métro lines:

A single Métro ticket (t+) costs €2.15. You can buy tickets at machines in the station using card or cash, or use a contactless bank card directly on the turnstile. The Métro runs from about 5:30am to 1:00am (2:00am on Fridays and Saturdays).

Key Destinations by Métro

RER (Regional Express Network)

Gare du Nord is also a major RER hub with several lines:

RER trains are faster than the Métro for longer distances but the stations are larger and more confusing to navigate. For central Paris, the Métro is usually simpler.

Taxis

The official taxi rank is outside the main exit on Rue de Dunkerque. Expect to pay:

Paris taxis are metered. Avoid anyone offering a ride inside the station — use the official rank only. Uber and Bolt also work in Paris and can be cheaper during off-peak hours.

Walking

The area immediately around Gare du Nord isn't Paris's prettiest, but you're within walking distance of some great neighbourhoods. The Canal Saint-Martin is a 10-minute walk east — one of Paris's most charming spots. Montmartre and Sacré-Cœur are about a 25-minute walk north-west.

Buses

Several bus routes stop at Gare du Nord, including the 38, 39, 42, 43, and 46. Bus 38 runs south through the Latin Quarter to Luxembourg — a pleasant way to see the city if you're not in a hurry. Same ticket as the Métro.
